Hi all-
CAMIS is developing software to operate the XLI analytical ultracentrifuge.
Release 1 of the software (Aviv AU-AOS; Analytical
Ultracentrifuge-Advanced Operating Software) is available on the RASMB
download site:
http://rasmb.bbri.org/rasmb/AOS/
Version 1 AOS:
1. Is freeware and will remain freeware as long as it is possible to
keep it so
2. Will install and run in "Testing" mode on computers not connected
to an XLI or to the Aviv Biomedical fluorescence detection systems
(Aviv AU-FDS)
1. The software simulates all signals so that it can "run" a
complete experimental protocol
3. Currently does _not_ operate the Beckman optical systems
1. Version 2 of the AOS software (currently under development)
will operate the Beckman absorbance and interference system
if there is sufficient interest
2. Version 2 will operate the upcoming Aviv Rapid Scan
Absorbance (Aviv AU-RSA) system in addition to the Aviv AU-FDS
4. Uses a database to save experimental setups and experimental
protocols, keep logs, and to automatically generate detailed
experimental reports
1. Experiments are archived, so that reports may be generated
long after an experiment has been run
5. Has an IP socket that permits communications with external programs
1. External programs may run the XLI through the AOS interface.
2. External programs may be synchronized to an AOS experimental
protocol and AOS data acquisition
3. This will allow new detectors to be developed (e.g. Helmut's
multiwavelength absorbance and low angle light scattering
detectors) without needing new XLI operating software
4. Draft XML protocols are being prepared to permit full inter
process communications between data acquisition, analysis
and interpretation (e.g. Sednterp2) software
6. AOS multi threaded so that analysis programs may be run
simultaneously with data acquisition with no penalty to data
acquisition and minimal impact on the analysis software
1. Under full working load, the AOS software uses ~30% of the
CPU time
Please give it a try and provide me (tom.laue at unh.edu) information about
what features you would like to have in future versions of the AOS
software. There is a PowerPoint presentation that outlines some of the
features of the software and a user manual... now somewhat outdated.
Best wishes,
Tom Laue
