Hello All,

Post-doctoral position available in the National Centre for Macromolecular Hydrodynamics.

A BBSRC funded position for a Post Doctoral Researcher is available between the National Centre for Macromolecular Hydrodynamics and the Food Flavour Group, Division of Food Sciences (University of Nottingham) for 2.75 years starting 1 January 2006.

The successful candidate will employ mass spectrometry in order to understand the ligand binding of volatile odour compounds to the rat and human odour binding protein (OBP). The ultimate aim of this project is to deduce the role of OBP in odour transport across the nasal epithelium, as well as OBPs role in odour coding. An active collaboration is already in place with a leading OBP research group in France, and the successful candidate will be expected to interact with, and to visit, this group over the course of the project.

The successful candidate will hold or expect to shortly complete a PhD in a relevant subject area; applicants with post-doctoral experience are also encouraged to apply. Applicants with either biochemistry or molecular biology experience who wish to train in mass spectrometry are equally encouraged to apply as well as those with more traditional mass spectrometry and analytical chemistry skills. The successful candidate will be expected to innovate on current experimental designs and to take a major lead in advancing the project aims. Experience in handling proteins is desirable as is a willingness to work both alone and as part of a team.

Salary will be within the range £22,289-£30,002 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.

Informal enquiries can be made to Dr. David Scott (dj.scott at nottingham.ac.uk).

Candidates should send a detailed CV, together with the names and addresses of two referees, to:
