[RASMB] Not an AUC subject

Dear colleagues and friends,

as above noted , this is not an AUC  subject .

As already I informed at the Oxford (UK) AUC Meeting, I'm going to finish 
officially my Job at
  the  Biozentrum  (University of  Basel  Switzerland). Not jet clear, how 
I will be involved  in the
future with analytical ultracentrifugation. To give a bit more information 
to friends who know me
over the glob long time , I like to present a copy of an intern letter to 
the  Biozentrum members
that must not be understood by outsiders but may give  more information 
about my future activities.

Hello,
First of all, I would like to say officially good-bye to everybody in the 
house!
Since I had reached my pension age (65) I was sponsored (50 %) by a private 
foundation to keep alive AUC services. In this period (except routine 
service) I developed with Andreas Engel and Werner Baschong a new method 
for AUC membrane protein determination used now in-house but also at other 
places, e.g., at Hoffman La Roche. An extended method Werner Baschong and 
me are close to publication. A computer program to evaluate 
sed.-equilibrium that can be used by "everyone" (not only specialists), 
which was developed by Gia Machaidze and myself can be downloaded from the 
internet.
The Biozentrum decided to terminate my contract by 30 June 2004. Meanwhile 
Gia is being trained to continue my job for U. Aebi's group and Andi 
Möglich for the group of Thomas Kiefhaber.
My proposal is to consult for those in need as a private person in AUC 
techniques (not only for the institute). At home I equipped myself with a 
modern computer connected to the net, from there I can calculate AUC programs.
If the Biozentrum will give me the permission to use the XLA AUC for groups 
who have no operator, I will be ready to close the gap.
For my services I would charge the Biozentrum for the effective time on the 
basis of a fair price by the hour . For the use of the instrument itself, 
the Biozentrum has to determine the price for users.
I think that my proposal could be a solution for many of you.
I thank you all for the confidence you gave me during the past 30 years.
