Dear all : Please find below details of a 1 year PDRA opportunity in the NCMH (UK National Centre for Macromolecular Hydrodynamics). Job Title:    Research Associate/Fellow
National Centre for Macromolecular Hydrodynamics/ School of Nursing, Queens Medical Centre, University of Nottingham

Salary: £24,520- £33,884 per annum, depending on skills and experience (£27,578 per annum minimum with relevant PhD)
Job Family and Level: Research & Teaching level 4 career training grade / level 4
Contract Status:   Fixed-term contract until 31 July 2013
Hours: Full-Time

Responsible to:  Dr Gary Adams
Location: National Centre for Macromolecular Hydrodynamics (NCMH) Laboratories, Sutton Bonington Campus, LE12 5RD
Job Outline:
To work in a team of multidisciplinary scientists on a research project directed towards the biomolecular and biophysical characterisation of protein-based molecules.
Responsibilities:
• Using the latest analytical ultracentrifugation techniques, examine the biophysical characteristics of protein-based molecules.
• Take responsibility for accurately recording experimental data.
• Performing in depth analysis of experimental data. This will include graphical / statistical analysis using appropriate software (Microsoft Excel/ etc.)
• Preparing data for publication, assisting with publication preparation
• Liasion with the other researchers working on this and other related projects.
• Contributing to the generation of experimental data for research manuscripts as well as assisting with the preparation and writing of such manuscripts
• Assisting with the preparation of grant applications
• To attend and present research findings at research group
• Attending group research meetings and producing written reports as required
• Acting as bench supervisor for students as appropriate (PhD, MSc)
• Assisting with the induction, training and supervision of PhD students
• Assisting with the preparation of research reports
• Following the approved School safety procedures for safe working in laboratories
• Other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the person appointed.
• To perform any duties appropriate to a Research Associate/Fellow

Person Specification:
Qualifications/ Education • PhD (or be near completion of) and postdoctoral experience in biophysical biochemistry (or equivalent)
Skills/Training
 • Experience in investigating the biomolecular and biophysical properties of proteins.  • Expertise in analytical centrifugation, SEC-MALLS and viscometry.
Experience
 • Experience and a proven track record of high quality research in a similar environment
Personal Attributes • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Ability to work to deadlines and prioritise tasks
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
Other • Flexible approach to new methods in research.
