Dear RASMB community:

I would like to announce that I am offering monthly UltraScan software
workshop seminars over the AccessGrid to present the latest developments
in UltraScan, teach how to effectively use the software and to analyze
and review anyone's equilibrium or velocity data during this workshop
(prior arrangement requested). These seminars will also allow UltraScan
users to ask questions and request help with their AUC projects.

The seminars will last 1 hour from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon Central Time on
the first Thursday of each month, starting December 2nd. These seminars
are open to anyone with an AccessGrid connection and are free. The times
are chosen so that both participants at the west coast and in Europe
can participate during reasonable times. A 1 hour setup time prior to
the workshop is available for testing your connection.

Hope to see you online!

-Borries

NEXT MEETING:

Thursday, December 2nd, 2004:
Topic: An overview of the new UltraScan LIMS (Laboratory Information
Management System), the UltraScan hydrodynamic database and UltraScan
and web interfaces to the system.

HOW DOES ACCESSGRID WORK?

AccessGrid is an Internet based teleconferencing system that allows you to
share video, audio, computer desktop screens and data with an unlimited
number of participants. Participants meet in a virtual conference room,
called the venue server, which is a computer running in my lab. Software
is available for Linux/Unix and Windows clients to connect to this server
and establish A/V links. Audio and video streams are multicast, so that
only one connection per stream is necessary, which dramatically reduces
bandwidth needs. You should have multicast enabled on your network for
best performance. For users without muticast enabled networks we offer
a multicast bridge.

WHAT DO I NEED TO PARTICIPATE?

You will need a networked computer (ideally connected to Internet-2 on a
multicast network) with a sound card, a headset with microphone (available
for ~ $10-$15 at Radioshack), VNC and AccessGrid client software, and
a USB or firewire camera (available for ~ $50-$100) if you want to feed
your own video.
