I agree with Peter Schuck - the limiting factor to reaching equilibrium
is frequently polymerisation. Spectrin is a good example: ~24 h for a
3-mm column at 37 C, months to years at 4 C (estimated!), because of the
high energy of activation. Lowering the temperature can be a two-edged
sword.
