If you haven’t removed the flash lamp or messed with the photomultiplier tube recently (things that could produce a vacuum leak) then one possibility is that some object has fallen onto the top of the chamber, under the sliding door, that is preventing the door from dropping down completely onto the O-ring to make the seal. (We’ve seen this happen.)
