Protein biophamaceuticals come in contact with a
variety of surfaces and interfaces. The effect of exposure to these
interfaces on the proteins is not well understood. This project aims to
utilize surface sensitive techniques (e.g. SPR, QCM-D, TIRF Microscopy, surface
enhanced spectroscopy, etc.) to examine the dynamics of protein adsorption and
the effect of different surfaces/interfaces on the structure and conformation of
the protein. A further objective of this project is to develop an
understanding of the influence of ion-protein as well as protein-protein
interactions on the adsorption process and the properties of the adsorbed
protein. The relative importance of protein-protein interactions in
mediating surface-protein processes will be examined through the use of
orthogonal methods such as DLS, AUC, etc.
