Versions and two different Beckman auc-software versions. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

color:#1F497D'>We ended up getting an old IBM from someone. Was the only one
that worked. I saw some of the PCs on eBay. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

color:#1F497D'>I had the suspicion that the Beckman software is somehow
expecting at some point an IBM fingerprint on the com port when recording
interference runs. Something on the IBM Mainboard is different, either faster
or slower, or just IBM. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

need for the $15,000 US upgrade depends on the age of your system.
 Beckman switched cameras and lasers at some point, and the new
acquisition boards involved were compatible with Windows 2000 computers.
 Our system was installed in the 1996-97 time-frame, and we did such an
upgrade a while ago, mainly to allow for that computer upgrade.    I
don't think there was any "official Beckman" way around it (could be
some of the users out there found alternatives).  </span> <br>

<span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>On the positive
side, the interference data was noticeably better when they were done.</span> <br>
<br>
<span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>As far as
Kanchan being able to use his Dell, I vaguely remember some compatibility
issues that made it preferable to stay with IBM computers, but I certainly
don't remember the details.  We never experimented.  Maybe some of
the users out there can comment further.</span> <br>
