suggestion that indeed unless you are careful switching to a new computer
will lead to a loss of instrument calibration and incorrect sedimentation
coefficients and masses. The radial and wavelength calibration data are stored
in two files in the root directory of the instrument computer (calparm.cal

new computer you will lose the calibration.</SPAN></FONT></DIV>

class=421465715-05112009>Kanchan, I suggest you search the archives, there have
been many discussions of this topic. Briefly, with an XL-A you can pretty much
use any computer and version of Windows, but with an XL-I it depends on which
version of the camera you have. If your old XL-I computer was running Windows 98
then you MUST stick with Windows 98 (or pay Beckman a huge sum to update the
camera and software). Even if you do have the newer camera and were running
Windows 2000 or XP, the camera interface (Raptor) board is very fussy about the
computers and will likely not work in this new computer. Your new Dell also
probably does not even have the serial port needed to connect to the
XL-I. </SPAN></FONT></DIV>

class=421465715-05112009>In short, you are probably better off sticking to your
old computer. There should not be any memory issue if you are strictly using it
for data acquisition. If you are out of hard drive space then simply use the CD
burner to transfer the data elsewhere. It is a bad idea to use the XL-I computer
for data analysis anyway since you are likely to crash the ongoing
experiments.</SPAN></FONT></DIV>
