Dear AUC community,
We are looking for a person who is at the beginning of his/her academic
career or any later stage of a scientific career, and has a particular
interest in the use and further development of analytical
ultracentrifugation as a technique for the characterization of
macromolecular systems.
The situation assumes that this person has his/her own financial
resources, including his/her salary for the stay at Heinrich Heine
University Düsseldorf in Düsseldorf, Germany. The funding should allow
for a stay of at least 2 years.
In return, we offer a state-of-the-art working environment at the
Institute of Physical Biology at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf,
Germany (https://www.ipb.hhu.de/en/). The available laboratories include
a level S2 biosafety laboratory, the possibility to work with prion
pathogens under level S3** conditions and a comprehensive range of
equipment for recombinant protein synthesis and physicochemical
characterization of biological macromolecules. In addition, the
Institute of Structural Biology (IBI-7) at Forschungszentrum Jülich,
which is also headed by Prof. Dr. Willbold, makes a significant
contribution to the available equipment. Cutting edge equipment for
biological NMR spectroscopy together with the technical expertise on
site at Jülich is particularly noteworthy. Our laboratory already has a
ProteomLab ultracentrifuge in operation equipped with an Aviv
fluorescence detection system and absorption optics. Of special
relevance is a new analytical ultracentrifuge (Optima AUC) with
absorption and interference optics.
Most projects in the institute deal with the pathologic aggregation of
proteins associated with human diseases. Joining our work force would be
appreciated but is not mandatory. For an overview of research activities
see our website https://www.ipb.hhu.de/en/.
Potential sources of funding include the DFG (Walter Benjamin Programme,
Emmy Noether Programme), EU (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, ERC
grants), Humboldt Research Fellowship, EMBO (Postdoctoral fellowships,
Young Investigator Programme).
Since this message will not reach all possible candidates, we ask you to
forward our message to people who you think might be interested in our
offer.
