Dear all-
It is with sorrow that I tell you that David Yphantis passed away April 15th, just two months after Lorna, his wife, died. David was one of the first researchers to recognize the potential of applying computers to AUC data acquisition, analysis and interpretation. He, along with Denny Roark, Walt Stafford, Mike Johnson, Jack Correia and Jeff Lary, developed several software approaches for the analysis of AUC equilibrium data. Along the way, David developed new centerpiece designs and laser-based interferometry. Working with relatively primitive CCD cameras, he was the first to automate data acquisition from the Model E interferometer.
His students recall the level of rigor he brought to the classroom and to their research. Many of us have anecdotes from being in his lab or talking with him at workshops or meetings. If you send me your stories, I will put them together to give to his daughters.
Best wishes,
Tom Laue
