Hi Helmut-
Oh, I am so sorry to hear about Walter’s passing. He was not only a champion of AUC, he helped keep the technology going during the very dark days in the 70’s and 80’s. He was also a wonderful person to know- lots of good stories, good knowledge and great wisdom about the potential for AUC.
Best to all-
Tom

Dear RASMB friends,

Thats bad news about my good friend Don. I will certainly think of him. Just one more addition on the people who are now missed in our community. First row holding the No 2 in his hands on the photo Olwyn sent around is Walter Maechtle who was a pioneer of AUC applications for nanoparticles and who started with us the development of the multiwavelength detector for AUC back in 2000 to get AUC to new hardware capabilities. He died 3 years ago. He influenced me a lot.

Best wishes

Helmut

Good god, we were all kids!
The report I got today on Don Winzor is that he is not doing well at all (3rd row, next to Steve Perkins). Keep him in our thoughts.
Best wishes,
Tom

Isn’t that also Steve Shire over Mark’s right shoulder and in front of Steve Harding? Lots of younger looking faces in this photo – and just 18 years ago.

Thanks Olwyn. Also another of our old friends Joachim Behlke – front row third left between Dave Scott and Mattia Rocco - whom we lost after the Uppsala meeting in 2009.
Great fotie, great meeting – with happy/sad memories
Steve

And here is Marc back in 2000, front row, between Karen Fleming and Jack Lebowitz, holding the middle zero and momentarily distracted by our mischievous administrator Allison Gillespie!
Happy memories of our colleague and friend.

Dear all-
I learned from Les Holladay that Marc Lewis passed away in his sleep last night. Marc was a long-time advocate for AUC, working hard to keep it available during the ‘dark days’ in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s.
He will be missed-
