[RASMB] SEDNTERP dead?

Hi, John,

Many thanks for the advice!

I did try to install 1.09 in a virtual machine running XP, but it wouldn't install. I think that's because I was running a 64-bit version of XP there. I have gotten it to run in Windows XP Mode on a Windows 7 Enterprise computer. But getting that Mode to run was no picnic.

Unfortunately, running XP in a virtualized environment might not be a long-term solution for everyone; some institutions will probably start banning XP altogether because Microsoft doesn't support it.

Cheers,
Chad

Chad, I believe those BITC SEDNTERP pages were being moved to another server due to Tom Laue's retirement. I'm sure Tom will respond about that shortly.
But with respect to running SEDNTERP version 1.09 (which is much more bug free than version 2), I'd suggest running it within a Windows XP virtual machine. We do this on our Windows 10 computers in our lab using VMWare Workstation (which is free for academic/research purposes). We do this in part to run SEDNTERP version 1.09, but also to run other old programs we find indispensable that aren't compatible with Windows 10.
For those of you still running Windows 7 Professional you can install a free Windows XP virtual machine (from Microsoft), but that feature disappeared in Windows 10 (and 8 too I think). In order to install XP using VMWare Workstation you need a valid XP license key and installation CD or disk image file (copies of XP can still be bought very cheaply on E-Bay etc. if needed).

Hi, All,

I have happily been using the web version of SEDNTERP for a while, now, but I can't find it now. Links to BITC versions appear to be broken. The download from John Philo's page won't install on my modern computers.

For now, I have a version on an old XP laptop that I can use, but that seems less ideal. Does anyone know what's going on?

Apologies if I've missed an announcement to this effect on this list or elsewhere. My spam filter is getting very aggressive.

Thanks,
Chad
