[RASMB] ITC instrumentation

Hi Chad

We have both the ITC200 and VpITC instruments and we find that the stability of the baselines on the Vp instruments are much better and therefore they get used more often. The concentrations required for both instruments are the same and it is more often than not in our case, the concentration that is the causitive factor in experimental noise throughout the experiment. I also agree with Lake, we have been through several needles at great expense through mishandling of the port adapter. The power module at the back of our 200 also failed recently which was more expense. Our two Vp instruments have never gone wrong. These were bought before GE took over operations of microcal...

Cheers

Chad,
I have an ITC 200 that I have been extensively using (2-4x a week) for the
past year or so. It is an extremely sensitive instrument with a couple of
design flaws. 1. The fill port adapter that connects the washing module to
the can lead to breakage in the in syringe (which are damn expensive!). You
have to be extremely careful during connections. The other major flaw is the
washing module. I am on my THIRD replacement. It seems that the internal
pumps are failing at an alarming rate. Fortunately, the washing modules are
on a year limited warranty and if you call up GE you can get a replacement
in a couple of weeks or so.
Overall the instrument has been great for me, no complaints. Just make sure
that the users are trained well and also limiting the number of users will
prolong the life of the instrument.
Best,
Lake

Hello to All,

Recently, on another bulletin board I subscribe to, there were some
uncomplimentary comments regarding recently purchased GE iTC200 instruments,
but high praise for the TA small-volume Nano ITC.

I was surprised at this turn of events, because, way back in 2009, I polled
some iTC200 users, and they were universally happy with their instruments.

We are considering acquiring a new small-volume ITC. Can anyone in
RASMB-land comment on your experiences with GE v. TA? Any information or
recommendations you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Chad
