[RASMB] tripping!

Dear RASMBers,

Thanks to Virgil, Andrew, Stephen, Karen and Sue for replying to my message last week concerning the tripping problem with our XL-I.

It has just been fixed by our (very helpful) Beckman engineer, and the problem was different from all the possibilities suggested in the replies.

Here's how he fixed it:

He reckoned that the problem was likely to reside with the battery backed RAM in the system control board - this can apparently become corrupted occasionally, causing the circuit breaker to trip.

So he swapped the battery backed RAMs on the CRT and system control boards and the problem was resolved (as far as we can tell).

If you should ever have this problem, this fix is not the kind of thing to try yourself; I'm relaying this to RASMB so that if it does happen to you, you know that a (brief) engineer visit is needed and you know what your engineer might try!

All the best,
Olwyn
