Positions available in Biophysics / Biophysical Chemistry

1. Junior postdoctoral position

Starting around January 2010, a junior postdoctoral position, 
suitable for an individual with no more than three years 
post-doctoral experience, will become available in the Section on 
Physical Biochemistry, Allen P. Minton, Chief.  Base stipend starts 
at US$44,000 / yr, with increments for postdoctoral experience and 
exceptional qualifications.  The initial appointment is for two years 
and may be extended by mutual agreement.

2. Visiting scientist

Starting around January 2010, a Visiting Scientist position suitable 
for a senior researcher on sabbatical will become available in the 
Minton laboratory.  The appointment is for up to one year, 
non-renewable, and carries a stipend of approximately $70,000 / yr 
(negotiable).  The Visiting Scientist is expected to participate in 
and contribute to ongoing research in the laboratory, experimental 
and/or theoretical.

Research in the Minton laboratory focuses on experimental 
characterization and development of quantitative 
statistical-thermodynamic models for the concentration-dependent 
physico-chemical properties (stability, reactivity, state of 
association, propensity toward aggregation) of proteins and other 
biological macromolecules in solutions ranging from low to very high 
total concentration of macromolecules.  Recent experimental work has 
focused on novel applications of static and dynamic light scattering, 
and tracer sedimentation equilibrium.  Results of these studies are 
essential to the understanding and prediction of protein behavior in 
physiological fluid media and in pharmaceutical formulations.
