Dear colleagues,

The Pasteur Institute (Paris, France)
private foundation of research in biology (2500 people)
opens a full-time

Research Engineer position

for the Centre of Biophysics of Macromolecules and their Interactions,
whose activity focuses mainly on the in vitro physico-chemical analysis of
biological macromolecules (especially proteins) and their assemblies, and
the characterization of their interactions.

Attached to the head of the Centre, you are in charge of mounting an
integrated facility, with no equivalent in France, for the study of
hydrodynamic properties of macromolecules, comprising at present 3
technologies (analytical ultracentrifugation, on-line static light
scattering, and dynamic light scattering).

Key Responsibilities:
You will be in charge of:
         · optimizing the operation of our newest acquisition
(Viscotek TDA light scattering-viscosimetry instrument, coupled to a
size-exclusion chromatography device).
         · carrying out macromolecular characterization and quality
control experiments.
         · conducting collaborative research projects.
         · analyzing and interpreting experimental data.
         · ensuring the regular maintenance of the instruments.
         · advising and training internal and external users (french
or foreign).
         · developing trustworthy procedures for the characterization
service activities of the facility, with future prospects towards an ISO
9001 certification.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
         · graduate degree in Science or Engineering, in a field
related to biochemistry, macromolecular biophysics and physico-chemical
methodologies.
         · fluent english (spoken and written); good level in french.
         · proficiency in the use of scientific graphing and data
analysis software, and in chromatographic and spectroscopic methods.
         · experience in the following techniques would be highly
appreciated: size-exclusion chromatography,
analytical ultracentrifugation, light scattering, viscosimetry,
fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS), small-angle
scattering (SAXS-SANS), NMR.
