Dear all,

We would like to announce the availability of a post-doc position at Eindhoven University of Technology for which we are looking for a researcher interested in analytical ultracentrifugation. Please find the details below:

Post-doctoral Position (or Group Leader Position) in Solution Characterization of Supramolecular Assemblies and Nano-carriers by Analytical Ultracentrifugation at the Eindhoven University of Technology: A vacancy has arisen as part of a national VICI research grant as well as a project of the Dutch Polymer Institute (DPI) for a post-doctoral research assistant (or group leader position) in the group of Prof U. S. Schubert at the Eindhoven University of Technology (Netherlands – http://www.schubert-group.com). The group has active research interests in the areas of supramolecular assemblies and (bio-)polymers, combinatorial material science as well as (bio‑)nanotechnology. The postdoctoral position involves the investigation of the state of association in solution of supramolecular assemblies and is connected to several synthetic supramolecular projects and both a nano-characterization and a nano-manipulation project. Moreover, it is part of a larger program on novel polymeric nano-carriers for drug delivery applications. As main method analytical ultracentrifugation will be used. Both sedimentation equilibrium and sedimentation velocity experiments will be performed to yield information on the aggregate size, the percentage of the different aggregates present and, for reversibly aggregated systems, the corresponding association constants. Furthermore, in case of systems with stable multiple sized aggregates, the separation and isolation of the different aggregates will be performed using preparative ultracentrifugation and size exclusion methods. A further investigation of the different species will be carried out by light scattering and (cryo)TEM. For the polymeric nano-carriers the degree of loading with drug molecules as well as the release characteristics will be investigated.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience either in chemistry or physics, a background in solution characterization by analytical ultracentrifugation or related methods and should be willing to operate in an interdisciplinary team. Furthermore, (s)he could also take part in the day-to-day supervision of doctoral and undergraduate students. The position is available for one year in the first instance, with the possibility of extending the contract for up to five years. Also the continuation on a university position track could be possible for suitable candidates.

The Eindhoven University of Technology is one of the top European universities (located in a leading European technology region) with a particularly strong standing in materials science and nanotechnology as well as biomedical technology. The graduate student and Post-Doc population has an international flair, with more than 60% coming from abroad. The working and teaching language is English. The projected starting date will be 01/07/06, however, there is flexibility to suit interested candidates. The salary is according to the "Collective Employment Agreement Dutch Universities". A salary as usual for a Post-Doc in the Netherlands is offered, starting at Euro 2500 gross per month, while an experienced researcher (group leader) starts at approximately Euro 3000 gross per month (both plus moving money, health insurance).

When applying, please supply a CV together with a list of publications. For informal enquiries, please contact Prof. U. S. Schubert (u.s.schubert at tue.nl).
