this may be of use.

there is a class of compounds called dendrimers.
a recent paper from haba et al. (jacs 126, 12760-12761) describes a class
of dendrimers whose solubility is temperature sensitive. the different
dendrimers are soluble in phosphate buffer at T< some value. as the
temperature is lowered, the dendrimers come out of solution, the
transmittance of the sample goes to zero.
the transitions, solubility vs T, appear to be quite sharp and are in the
range needed for the auc.
if anyone out there thinks this might be a reasonable approach to
calibration, you might let me know and i could see about having the
dendrimers synthesized.
